Low socio-economic status (SES) students

The Index of Education and Occupation from the latest available Australian Bureau of Statistics Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas is used to determine low socio-economic status. The index value for each postcode is used to identify a postcode nationally as low (bottom 25% of the population), medium (middle 50%) or high (top 25%). The number of students from a low SES background is then calculated by summing the number of students whose home postcodes as reported by university enrolment data are low SES postcodes.
